Have you met the lovely Cynthia (call her “Cindy”) Senecal? She’s an amazing member of the Catering by Michaels team, working in the Accounting Department as the Accounts Receivable Specialist since 2008.

It’s always fun to see what makes our staff tick, and Cindy had a lot to say about her time at Catering by Michaels, and what she likes to do outside of work!

What did you do before working here?

Did I even have a life before CBM?  Honestly, what I did was nothing exciting: Banking, Management Office of Currency Exchanges.

I will say that regardless of where I’ve been and where I’m going, I’m all about Accountancy – only.  Accountancy is my life. I wouldn’t be as happy in another role!

What does a typical work day look like?

It involves lots of computer time divvied up between bookkeeping, invoicing, accounts receivable, and assisting with accounts payable. But I make sure to take breaks as I need them to sample the delicious dishes being cooked up in the kitchen!

What’s the best part of your job?

I love my team – from the executive level on, they are great people to work with! It wouldn’t be the same without the amazing people I share my time with.

What’s the hardest part of your job?

Sometimes, it seems everyone wants everything at once. I find myself often jumping from one task to another in the blink of an eye. It can be tough at times, but I accept the challenges that come with this role.

Favorite thing to do in Chicago?

Music fests! I was disappointed to miss our team’s involvement with Lollapollooza. One of my coworkers kept sending me pictures, and I wanted so badly to be there!

What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

Spending time with my kids. My daughter (22 yrs. old) and my lil guy (6 yrs.) love to play and mess around – fun is the name of the game!

Any hidden talents?

I danced at my wedding, and everyone lost their minds. I typically do not participate in one-minute dance parties at work!

Favorite show on Netflix (or TV) right now?

There are a lot of shows I enjoy, but Ray Donovan owns my free time right now.

Favorite vacation you’ve ever been on?

It’s hard to beat the bliss and tranquility achieved in Puerto Rico. Not to mention the rum!

How does sustainability fit into your daily life (outside of our sustainable practices)?

My husband keeps me honest!  He insists that we recycle at home – he’s my eco-man!

What are some of your favorite food items we make and what makes them so delicious/great?

My favorite type of cuisine is Italian, but my favorite menu items are:

  • Tinga de pollo & carne asada tacos
  • Rigatoni a la vodka
  • Jumbo whitefish with parmesan crust
  • Cauliflower & brussels sprouts with panko
  • Mini pizza muffins
  • Tres leches cake

Catering by Michaels makes the best in Chicago!

What advice would you give someone looking to get into a similar role?

Have a positive attitude and be willing to work alongside all types of personalities.  At times we may want to choke one another, but the bottom line is that we are here to assist each other so every job or department can run smoothly.

Anything else worth mentioning?

I came to Catering By Michaels with no experience in the food and beverage industry.  I couldn’t be more grateful to work for such an awesome company and amazing peeps.
